Peligrosa aka "Peli"

Previously known as "Sandy", Peligrosa (meaning "dangerous" in Spanish) comes from our very exciting breeding to Loki (BIS/BISS Ch. Capri's Woods End Spellcaster, SOM) and out of our girl Nikki. Before the litter was born Maribess put in a specific request to Nikki that she have a plain faced brindle girl. At the end of a long day, a tired Nikki gave one last push, and out tumbled a dark, very plain, brindle girl! We nearly lost her but luckily, a fast acting Richard feverishly began reviving her, while I (Katrina) flagged down one of the wonderful vets at Bishop Ranch Veterinary (where we whelped the entire litter). With the vet's help, within moments the little girl was breathing on her own, and soon, taking a much awaited first sip at mom's milk bar. She started out the smallest of the litter, but quickly became the 2nd largest! Maribess drove down for a visit when the babies were 5wks and it was love at first lick. Sandy (as she was known at the time) quickly made her way into Maribess's heart w/ lots of snuggles and sweet boxer kisses. She's spunky and feisty, every bit a bold boxer girl. We think she'll fit in nicely with the Shelterwood crew. This is a very special puppy as it signifies ours and Maribess' relationship coming full circle. Little Peli is granddaughter to the Maribess' heart dog Woody (Ch. Maywoods Rite of Shelterwood), the sire of our Cassius and Nikki. We have high hopes for this very special girl. She has a cute feminine head, wonderful expression, a strong topline and lots of bone. Though she may be plainly marked on the outside, when it comes her to personality, she's the flashiest of the bunch. Please stay tuned for future updates, we are very excited to co-own her with Maribess & Shelterwood Boxers. She will be selectively shown by Katrina as she matures, and professionally handled by Kimberlie Steele-Gamero as well. We know she and Kim will make an excellent team!

We look forward to a bright future ahead for Peli. In the meantime, she's being loved and spoiled by Maribess and Buzz, their granddaughters and the rest of the Shelterwood crew.

*FLASH* Peli begins 2010 with a Breeder-Owner Katrina in the lead, and they walk away with another point towards her AKC Championship at the Golden Gate Kennel Club! Not only did Peli do fantastic in the ring, she was a great ambassador for our breed. She gave kisses to willing takers, young, old from all walks of life. We are very proud of our girl, and had a great weekend spending time on the bench w/ our breeder/mentor Maribess Johnson! At almost 21mos old, Peli is really maturing into a beautiful girl. Updates!
  • Jan. 27th, 2010 - Peli & Katrina kick-off the new year with a bang! At the annual, benched Golden Gate Kennel Club show, we took on a line-up of professionally handled girls, surprised us all by walking away with Winners and our 2nd AKC point! This is Peli and Katrina's first point together, and made even better since it was earned from the Bred-by Exhibitor Class! Thank you to Judge Peter Baynes for seeing beyond Peli's very plain coat, and Katrina's novice handling skills! We were thrilled to have Maribess (Peli's main-momma, and our mentor) in the stands cheering us on as well, she's been so supportive through out the years, and we cannot thank her enough. Not only did Peli excel in the ring, she was a fantastic ambassador for the boxer breed on the bench. She freely and happily gave out kisses to any takers, young or older, and though the weekend was long and tiring, it was well worth it! *ringside practice* , *digging for treats* , & *WD and WB*

  • Sept 12th, 2009 - Peli and Katrina venture into the BBE class at the Sir Francis Drake KC, and go RWB under Judge Jane Haefner. This was Katrina's first time showing Peli, and Peli showed great for her! *Setting up in BBE*, *on the move* & *WB line-up*

  • Sept 5th, 2009 - After 4 more RWB's Peli takes her first point from the Open Brindle class (she is 16mos old) at the Redwood Empire KC under breeder judge Howard E. Engel. She was expertly handled by Kimberlie Steele-Gamero (with help from Prof. handler Marj Brooks) to BOW over her 1/2 brother, and BOS as well!

  • April 4-5th, 2009 - Yosemite Kennel Club, Saturday Peli goes BP/ Puppy Group 3 under Judge Betty R. Leininger, then follows it up with RWB on Sunday under well-respected Judge Houston (Toddie) Clark. She was expertly handled by Kimberlie Steele-Gameo.

  • Jan. 23, 2009 - At the Orange Coast Boxer Club in San Bernadino, Peli goes Best Puppy in Sweeps under Judge Ivan Reek (who also gave Grandpa Woody, Grand Sweeps 9yrs prior), and then on to Best Puppy in Specialty under Judge Ann Gilbert! She was expertly handled by Kim Steele and her assistant Page. Big thanks to Judge Reek and Gilbert for recognizing our girl!

  • Judge Ann Gilbert's comments posted to SB-List from the Specialty show about Peli were as follows: "This adorable brindle girl came from
    the 6-9 puppy class with all the class and  presence of a girl much older than
    she was. I'll freely admit I have a soft spot  for those classic brindle girls
    and once again I was not disappointed by my  heart or eye.  Beautiful balance,
    beautiful dark eyes with great expression and she took her turn around the
    ring  like a pro.  I was pleased to learn  that Ivan Reek had also awarded her
    Best Puppy In Sweepstakes earlier in the  day."
  • Jan. 1-4th, 2009 - Peli shows wonderfully at her first Specialty weekend (2nd show weekend). She was shown beautifully by Gary Steele and placed 2nd in her class of 9 both days in her Sweeps class under Breeder Judges George Trist and Zona Gruppe.(See pics below, courtesy K. Sanfilippo.   • Nov. 8, 2008 - Peli kicks off her show career earning her first Puppy Blue! She was shown beautifully by Kimberlie Steele-Gamero, and was a happy, bouncy puppy the entire time! See action pics: Stacked in the ring, the Line-Up, Down, & Back.
